Given the history of Indian Golf Tour and the sphere of our activities, the most obvious question we are asked is whether our name is inspired by Tiger Woods?
While that is completely incorrect, what is true is that we bring in the same level of passion, commitment and a desire to excel in managing events, as does Tiger Woods in becoming a legend in the golfing world.
Those were the very attributes that helped us change the face of Indian golf. After winning a global tender to manage and market the Indian PGA Tour from the Professional Golfers Association of India (PGAI), IGT battled the myths surrounding golf and the negative connotations, and helped Indian golf become the richest domestic sport in the country. The Tour, which offers a prize money of Rs 3.05 crores, today provides a platform for young Indian professional golfers to showcase and hone their skills, and is a wonderful property for Indian corporates to leverage.
Not only did IGT help develop the Indian PGA Tour, we also conceptualised and executed various corporate events and series that have become the talking point of Indian society and corporate circles. IGT has played an important role in the outstanding success of events like the Hero Honda Masters, an event on the Asian Tour, the Madhavrao Scindia Golf Tournament, the Christel House Open, the American Express series, the Air Sahara Series and others.
In 2003, after nine years of focussing on golf, IGT made a conscious decision to diversify into other sports and general events. Thanks to the experience of the golfing years, it was a smooth transition. In the last two years, IGT successfully managed and marketed the Maharaja Hari Singh Memorial Polo tournament, India’s premier polo event, conceptualised the stunning evening party to commemorate one year of Prudential Systems in India, celebrated 175 years of the historic Royal Calcutta Golf Club and managed a horse race and a marathon!!
Getting back to golf, IGT’s contribution to the development of Indian professional golf was acknowledged in the truest sense when IGU (the Indian Golf Union) chose us as their marketing and management partners for the amateur and junior golf tours, and for the overall development of the game in the country. IGT services are also much sought after when it comes to golf consultancy, player management, sports media as well as television production. We have a dedicated television show – The Indian Golf Show on Ten Sports highlighting all the major golf tournaments we manage.
